Champion, the forerunner brand of Streetwear
If the Collegiate Style has become a Must-have, we owe it to Champion too.
Born in North Carolina in 1919, the American brand specialized in sports clothing and equipment, soon obtaining a succulent agreement with some of the most prestigious universities in the United States, the Michigan University - to produce the sports uniforms for their football team, the Michigan Wolverines.
In the 1930s it was renamed "Champion Knitting Mills Inc", furthermore, the Military Academy adopted its Sportswear for training and physical education classes.
From the 80s to the 90s Champion became the official supplier of all NBA teams and for some NFL teams, but the definitive consecration takes place in 1992 as official sponsor of the US Olympic Team at the Barcelona Olympics.
Since hundred years, Champion has been synonymous with quality and essentiality.
Its style is recognizable and traceable in basic garments, generally in single color background, mostly without patterns and become famous for its "Light Grey Gym" Colorway.
Fabrics such as Jersey, natural cotton and French Terry are the hallmark of the brand, which has continued - for over a century - to offer a simple and timeless American college look.
Champion invented Streetwear before Streetwear was born, mixing sporty and relaxed clothing with an elite college look.
